Organising an online Quiz via Google Meet, Teams or Zoom

A Quiz is the perfect way to get together online with friends, family or colleagues. With a little preparation, it can be turned into an interactive and enjoyable experience – even from a distance!

What do you need to organise an online Quiz?

  • The Quiz: The easiest option is an online Quiz. That way, you don’t have to bother with pen and paper: participants play via their smartphones and the scores are automatically tracked. You can create your own Quiz or choose a ready-made quiz from our shop.
  • A stable internet connection: This will prevent interruptions and ensure that the Quiz runs smoothly.
  • A laptop or tablet: For the host or Quizmaster to display the Quiz via screen sharing, and for participants to follow the Quiz.
  • A video call programme: For example, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet.

The software that best suits your group depends on the length of the Quiz and the number of participants.

Google Meet is often the best free option. With a free Google account, up to 100 participants can join and meetings can last up to 60 minutes, which is sufficient for a standard Quiz.

General tips for playing a Quiz with an online group

  • Test the technical setup in advance to ensure that everything is functioning properly. (Tip: view our online Pub Quiz Organising Checklist for more tips on preparation).
  • Make it fun and encourage interaction! Consider appointing a Quizmaster to present the Quiz. See also our guide to presenting a Pub Quiz.
  • Ask participants to turn off their microphones but leave their cameras on. Don’t forget to take screenshots from time to time that you can share later, for example in a newsletter or other internal channels.
  • Finish with an award ceremony with original prizes for the winners (and possibly losers).
